What is Person-Centred Counselling?
The Person-Centred Approach is a mode of therapy that acknowledges the client as the expert on their own life. The role of the therapist is not to analyse your past or to diagnose any conditions, but to hold a non-judgmental, safe space for you to explore the feelings and emotions you may have suppressed due to past trauma and/ or expectations placed upon you during childhood.
Do you offer concessions?
Yes, I offer concessions to students and people on a low income or who are unemployed.
How long are sessions?
Both counselling and life-coaching sessions last 50minutes. Counselling sessions are recommended to take place on a weekly basis, however, this is up to you. Life-coaching sessions are recommended in blocks of 6, to help you accomplish your goals.
Do I need counselling or life coaching?
This depends on your needs.
If you are highly motivated and the problems you face are practical or career concerns, life-coaching can be very effective. It helps you to create the stepping stones you need to walk across to fulfil your goals in a way that is manageable, rather than overwhelming.
Although a course of 6 sessions is recommended, this is, of course, completely up to you and sessions can be arranged on an ad hoc basis. During sessions we will look at your goals and what you would like to achieve, any potential barriers that are in your way and how to overcome them, and plan of action will be created to undertake in between sessions to help you achieve your aims.
Life-coaching can, however, be limited in its ability to help you tackle more deep rooted and persistent problems such as PTSD, or depression and anxiety. Where coaching alone can feel insufficient, counselling and psychotherapy can provide that extra support, to help you to gain more awareness of yourself and a better understanding of your conflicts. Through this awareness and understanding, transformation will happen. As the father of Person-Centred counselling, Carl Rogers, acknowledged, “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
If you feel confused as to what would be of benefit for you at this moment, please get in touch and we can have a chat to find what will meet your needs.
Can I combine counselling with life-coaching?
Yes, this can absolutely be done. There is no 'one size fits all'; sessions are tailored to you as an individual and are flexible and fluid, depending on your needs.
